Here's a guide to the main stitches that I use to create my toys.
1. Running Stitch
First up we have the simplest stitch, the running stitch. You basically just go in and out to create a line. This stitch is used when you want to pull the stitches to cinch something (check out the steamed bun)
2. Backstitch
Backstitching is similar to the running stitch, but you will backtrack each time to make a more secure hold. This stitch is used to sew two pieces of fabric together, when you intend to flip the toy inside out to stuff.
3. Whipstitch
Whipstitch creates decorative vertical lines. This stitch is used to sew two pieces of fabric together when you don't intend to flip the toy inside out (check out the donut)
4. Ladder Stitch
Ladder stitch is my favorite, because it feels like magic. This stitch is used to attach two pieces of fabric together seamlessly, like when you close up a hole. Before you pull the stitches tight, they resemble a ladder, giving the stitch its name.
5. Chain Stitch
Chain stitch is an embroidery stitch. I use this stitch to sew on the mouths to my little characters.
